The Mission of the Opelika Church
Among the last words of Jesus were the following instructions to His disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you". (Matthew 28:18-20)

This is known as the "Great Commission" because the blessings of being in the family of God are extended to everyone in every place in every generation. This is the "mission" of the Opelika church. Our goal is to share the greatness of God's love in Jesus Christ to those in Opelika, the surrounding areas, and beyond the borders of our country. We wish all to know the eternal value of the message of Jesus, the simplicity in becoming a follower, and how to live like Him.

"Making disciples" begins with sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. It truly is a message of "good news". Understanding that God created us to share His love with us is the cornerstone of the gospel. Our goal is simply to let people know about His love, the great value in being His disciple, and how one becomes a follower of Christ. The decision to accept His offer of love and to be part of the heavenly family through baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is voluntarily made by each individual who hears and accepts His offer of grace and mercy.
MAKING
DISCIPLES
Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ is the beginning of a great relationship with a Leader who has your best interest at heart. Learning and keeping all His commandments may seem like a overwhelming task, but it is greatly simplified when we understand that all His commandments are based on only two. The first is to “love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”. God must be first, after all, He is responsible for us experiencing miracle of life. The second commandment is to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 28:37-39). If we understand the motivation and action of love, we don’t need a recipe book but simply apply the “golden rule” of “whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them” (Matthew 7:12). This is the focus of the Opelika church, to "keep first things first".
